The company was founded in 1999 by Michael Venable of Bremen, Indiana. Mike had been a satellite installer for 3 years, installing Prime Star systems. He saw an opportunity with a superior product of Dish Network. The business evolved from a one bedroom apartment and moved to a retail location in Elkhart.
In 2001, after moving to a new location in Mishawaka, Mike saw the need to bring on a business partner. Philip “John” Klein became a full partner in July of 2001. John graduated from Bethel College in 2000 with a bachelors degree in computer science and a minor in business.
With Mike’s practical knowledge and John’s business sense, the business grew rapidly. From its humble beginning in a small apartment, Unicom has grown to now employ over 50 people and has over 100,000 satisfied customers. Unicom now has locations in Mishawaka, Indianapolis, and Ft. Wayne in Indiana and Ann Arbor Michigan and services all of northern Indiana and southern Michigan.
The customer always comes first with Unicom! This philosophy has paid off as most of Unicom’s new business comes from referrals. It is a trend that Unicom hopes to continue for years to come in a constantly changing and increasingly competitive market.
